Concrete Structures

In line with our aim to offer complete construction solutions we have established a Civil Structures Division.

Our very experienced team is able to confidently construct concrete bridges, waste water and raw water treatment plants, reservoirs, weirs, underground structures, and the like.

As part and parcel of the main contract, Fountain Civil Engineering's responsibilities have included the construction of:

  • Reservoirs
  • Pump Stations
  • Dissipation and siphon chambers (requiring dewatering to 4m below sea-level)
  • Gabion walls up to 10m high
  • Suspended drainage and pressure pipelines up to 30m above ground.

More recently, FCE began venturing into more intricately involved concrete projects such as:

The upgrade of MR458

A dual carriageway (road over road and rail) bridge. Each carriage way is supported by two abutments with three sets of cantilevered piers and three decks. The bridge will provide the essential link to Tongaat Hulletts Developments (THD) new industrial development called Cornubia.

Blackburn Reservoir

A square (50mx50m) structure with a capacity of 17, 5 million litres complete with inlet chambers, pipelines and PRV Building. Currently the project is still in its infancy with the first line of wall bases being cast along the northern face and the first corner panel has also now been cast.

M41 Upgrade

The existing bridge is to be expanded to accommodate two lanes of traffic in both directions. The new bridge is a cast-in-situ (using void formers) post-tensioned structure resting upon two abutments and a central pier. The bridge will provide access to THD’s new Retail Park Development including Makro, MMI Group, Virgin active and Investec to name a few.
